Al Alamien

Al Alamein is a Mediterranean coastal town located 105 km west of Alexandria.

During World War II, Allied forces won a fierce battle here and as a tribute the Australian Government built a memorial here and the statue of the Unknown Soldier. Over 80,000 soldiers lost their lives or were wounded at Al Alamein and a visit to the Commonwealth War Cemetery is quite a sobering experience.

Opposite, is a World War II museum full of artefacts, aircraft, tanks, weapons and memorabilia.

Al Alamein is a very interesting day trip and a must for war and military buffs.
