Olympia is a sanctuary of ancient Greece, is known for having been the site of the Olympic Games in classical times. Games were held every Olympiad (i.e. every four years). This is the capital of the region or prefecture. The city extends from the shore up to the Castle. It is divided in two parts, the upper and the lower, whose layout, parks and plazas give it a definite distinction. The Cathedral of Saint Andrew, the city's patron, rises above the lower city. Patras possesses a fine archaeological museum, an art gallery and a printing museum.
